Colorado’s top in-state OL prospect speaks on interest in Buffs

The Colorado Buffaloes have made the top eight for in-state prospect and four-star interior offensive lineman Deacon Schmitt.

According to the 247Sports composite rankings, Schmitt is the No. 31 OL nationally and the No. 1 overall prospect in Colorado, just ahead of four-star tight end Camden Jensen of Heritage High School. Listed at 6-foot-5 and 320 pounds, Jensen’s other top schools include Alabama, Tennessee, Oklahoma, Georgia, Nebraska, USC and the reigning national champion Ohio State Buckeyes.

Earlier this week, Brandon Huffman of 247Sports caught up with the class of 2026 prospect to discuss his interest in Colorado and his other top teams. Here’s what Schmitt had to say about the Buffs (h/t 247Sports): “I’ve grown up around CU and always had a special place for them.”

In the 2025 signing class, CU head coach Deion Sanders landed the state of Colorado’s No. 3 prospect in Loveland tight end Zayne DeSouza. Can Coach Prime do it again with a prospect of Schmitt’s caliber?
