Scott Cochran adds Alabama football champions to West Alabama coaching staff

The Alabama football connections continue as Scott Cochran builds his West Alabama football coaching staff.

The West Alabama football program announced Thursday that former Alabama quarterback Blake Sims as its wide receivers coach, and former Crimson Tide defensive back and running back Ronnie Clark as its running backs coach.

Hired in his first collegiate coaching position, Sims won two national championships at Alabama in 2012 and 2013 and was the starting quarterback for the Crimson Tide in 2014 were he earned second-team All-SEC honors.

Sims wasd most recently the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Mt. Bethel Christian Academy in Marietta, Georgia.

“Blake Sims, as everyone knows, was an electric player for us at Alabama, but what he brought off the field is why he’s perfect for this wide receiver position,” Cochran said in a statement. “His energy, his enthusiasm to help young men develop is going to be his biggest attribute to this organization.

“I’m crazy fired up about Blake coming to join us and help our wide receivers achieve greatness,” Cochran continued.

Clark was a part of two national championship wins at Alabama from 2014-18 and played in four SEC title games . He most recently coached at Brookwood High School.

“Ronnie Clark played running Back, linebacker, and maybe even some safety for us at Alabama,” Cochran said. “He played all over the field but what he was really good at was bringing energy and he was always on the leadership team. He was a coach and a player.
