D.W. Daniel High School announced Thursday morning that football coach Jeff Fruster is stepping down from his position.
Fruster became the head coach in 2016 and has led the Lions to six region championships and three state titles in nine seasons. According to the news release, Fruster will continue to serve as a teacher at Daniel.
Before he was a coach at Daniel, he was a part of football state championship teams in 1995 and 1998 as a player.
“Coach Fruster’s commitment to our student athletes and the culture of excellence he has fostered will have a lasting legacy,” Daniel athletic director Ben Touchberry said. “We are incredibly grateful for his leadership and the countless hours he has poured into this program. Daniel High School and our athletic department have been extremely blessed to have gone on this incredible journey with Coach Fruster.”
Last season, Daniel finished with an 11-2 record and made the Upper State semifinals. Fruster ended his head coaching stint at Daniel with a 92-20 record, including 84-6 the last seven seasons.
