Wisconsin football 2025 season opener moved

Wisconsin football’s 2025 season opener against Miami (OH) has officially been moved from Saturday, Aug. 30, to Thursday, Aug. 28.

The game kicks off what is expected to be a challenging 2025 schedule. Wisconsin visits Alabama to close nonconference play, then has Big Ten matchups against Michigan, Washington, Iowa, Minnesota, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio State and Oregon.

Wisconsin’s season-opener against Miami (OH), its Week 2 contest vs. Middle Tennessee and its Week 4 matchup against Maryland project to be the easiest games on its schedule. Otherwise, every other opponent projects to finish the season bowl-eligible, if not competing for College Football Playoff appearances.

Wisconsin’s Thursday night opener against Miami (OH) will be the team’s third consecutive opener against a MAC opponent. The Badgers defeated Buffalo 38-17 to open the 2023 season, then Western Michigan 28-14 to open 2024.

The game will be played in primetime. Both the kickoff time and broadcast information have yet to be released.

Wisconsin begins its spring practice session in the coming weeks, ramping up preparation for the upcoming season. The time will give us a first look at the program’s new-look offense, as well as its transfer additions at key positions, including QB Billy Edwards Jr. and TE Tanner Koziol.
