Dabo Swinney on freshman defensive lineman Amare Adams impressing early in spring camp

Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney and defensive coordinator Tom Allen have both been impressed with true freshman defensive tackle Amare Adams in the early stages of spring practice.

A highly regarded five-star recruit out of South Florence High School, Adams arrived in Tiger Town as the top-ranked player in South Carolina and one of the nation’s premier defensive line prospects. After enrolling early in January, he’s already turning heads with his physical presence and talent.

Swinney didn’t hesitate to praise Adams after seeing him in action, stating that the freshman lives up to his billing. “He’s one of those guys that matches up with what everybody says about him,” Swinney said.

Allen echoed those sentiments, emphasizing how Adams has stood out even among Clemson’s talented group of freshmen. “He’s very, very unique…not many guys can walk into a college of this caliber and physically stick out,” Allen said.

Adams was dominant in high school, recording 250 career tackles, 40 tackles for loss, and 14 sacks. He also made a strong impression at the Navy All-American Bowl, earning the Anthony Muñoz Lineman of the Year award. Now, he’s proving to be even more impressive in person, with Allen noting that his combination of size and movement exceeded expectations. “This kid’s unbelievable,” Allen said. “He’s really caught your eye.”
