The Oklahoma Sooners welcomed a host of priority prospects over the weekend for their Future Freaks event in Norman. The Sooners are working to continue building up their 2026 recruiting class, but one of the top targets in the 2027 cycle was also in town.
The Sooners welcomed 2027 quarterback Peyton Houston to town for the event. He’s been projected to Oklahoma by OUInsider and Rivals Parker Thune, but Houston’s being pursued by programs from across the country.
Rivals ranks Houston as the No. 2 quarterback in the 2027 recruiting class and the No. 5 player in the nation at this point in the cycle.
The Sooners have stood out to the record setting signal caller out of Louisiana. Even with a new offensive coordinator leading the recruitment, Houston remains impressed with what OU offers. After his time in Norman, I asked Houston what he thought of Oklahoma’s new offensive coordinator.
“Coach (Ben) Arbuckle is a great guy,” Houston said. “He knows how to have fun with the guys and also commands them and leads them in the right direction. He does a great job of having the offense fit around the quarterback’s strengths, allowing the offense to be as efficient as possible.”
Although Houston is being pursued by Georgia, Florida State, Colorado, Texas, Texas A&M, SMU, Michigan, and Tennessee, the Sooners’ culture continues to impress Houston.
“The atmosphere and the people in Oklahoma are what continue to bring me back,” Houston said. “The players and coaches all seem to be in the same thought process and all have bought into the program.”
There’s a long way to go in the 2027 recruiting cycle, but the Sooners have put themselves in a strong position to land one of the top passers in the class.
