Top Texas high school football recruits in the class of 2027

Recently, we looked at the top 15 junior prospects coming out of Texas for the next recruiting cycle. How about those coming up behind them?

Texas is loaded with some incredible sophomore talent. Several of those prospects will likely end the 2027 cycle ranked inside the top 50, and some even potentially in the top 10.

Here are 10 of those names to keep an eye on…

Myson Johnson-Cook

School: DeSoto

Position: Athlete

Summary: At the rate he’s going, Johnson-Cook projects to be a top 5-15 player in the 2027 class. A two-way standout for the Eagles, he made the most of his game in the rushing department, accounting for 911 yards and 14 touchdowns on 88 carries.

Colton Nussmeier

School: Marcus (Flower Mound)

Position: Quarterback

Summary: In his first full season leading the Marauders, Nussmeier completed 59% of his passes for 1,894 yards and 16 touchdowns. A rising star in the 2027 class, he already holds offers from Alabama, Auburn, Georgia, Michigan, and several other Power Four programs.

Cooper Witten

School: Liberty Christian (Argyle)

Position: Safety

Summary: Cooper, the son of Dallas Cowboys legend Jason Witten, has found his strides on the defensive side of the ball. A safety holding numerous Power Four offers, Witten accounted for 45 tackles, eight pass breakups, and five interceptions. He also put up numbers offensively, catching 15 passes for 263 yards and seven touchdowns.

Landen Williams-Callis

School: Randle (Richmond)

Position: Running Back

Summary: How many sophomores do you know about who rushed for over 2,000 yards last season? Williams-Callis can lay claim to that accolade. On 226 carries, he rushed for 2,108 yards and 42 touchdowns. He averaged 9.3 yards a carry…
