UCF Knights football: Scott Frost sees enthusiasm, demands tempo in 1st spring practice

ORLANDO — Walking out onto UCF’s practice field brought back good memories Tuesday for Scott Frost, beginning his second regime as Knights football coach. It didn’t hurt that the previous day’s thunderstorms brought along cooler weather to begin the 15-session spring grind.

“There’s just such a good energy out there. The weather’s beautiful, and there’s palm trees and ospreys flying around and a bunch of kids that love football,” said Frost, hired in December following Gus Malzahn’s resignation to take the offensive coordinator job at Florida State. “It’s a fun place to be.

“The kids were excited and enthusiastic to be out there, so I kind of let that play out and see how it looked. For the most part, the enthusiasm carried over. The kids want to be good, and we’ll see if they are willing to put in the work to get there.”

“We have some work to do,” redshirt senior running back Myles Montgomery said. “It’s a new type of offense, fast-paced all the time. … Eventually, we’re going to get used to that, and it’s going to be some fireworks.

“You see the way I play. When I get tackled, I get back up. I like that already. That’s the way I play. The whole offense doing that. It’s right up my alley.”
