Neshaminy hires new high school football coach to succeed Steve Wilmot

Neshaminy has a new head football coach.

The Neshaminy School Board confirmed Nick Felus as the successor to Steve Wilmot on Tuesday night.

Felus was the head coach at his alma mater, Penn Cambria (class of 1996), for the past six seasons, culminating in the first District 6 championship in school history and a trip to the PIAA Class 3A state semifinals in 2024. The Panthers finished with a 14-1 record, which was the best in school history. He earned Altoona Mirror Coach of the Year honors.

Felus had been the head coach at Altoona High from 2016-18 and the offensive coordinator at Coatesville before that.

Felus’ X/Twitter profile says he is a “QB Coach who Specializes in QB Training & Development at all levels.”

Wilmot resigned Jan. 23 after compiling a 64-42 record in 10 years as Neshaminy head coach, which followed 20 years as an assistant there. His teams won Suburban One League National Conference championships in 2016 and ’17.

Neshaminy went 6-5 last season and qualified for the District One Class 6A playoffs, losing in the opening round. Quarterback Mike Eckart, running backs Carter Clee and Nahsir Moore, offensive lineman Milo Makes, tight end Lucas Stewart and receiver/defensive back Mike Sassano are among the returning players with experience from the 2024 squad.

“Although I have not met him, I am optimistic,” said Eckart, a junior. “He has a strong resume and it looks like he had lots of success last year.”
