LSU football head coach Brian Kelly gave injury updates on Whit Weeks and Harold Perkins following Wednesday’s practice.
Both linebackers suffered injuries during the 2024 season. Perkins tore his ACL playing against UCLA in week four while Weeks went down with a broken fibula and dislocated ankle in the second quarter of LSU’s bowl game against Baylor.
According to Kelly, the pair will be ready for summer workouts starting in June. They’ll continue to work with the Tigers’ training staff for the remaining eight weeks of the spring semester.
“They’ll have no restrictions going into camp,” Kelly said. “We feel really good about it.
“They’re both moving around. They’re both very active in our progression of their rehab.”
Weeks led the Tigers and tied for second in the SEC with 125 tackles in his sophomore season. He and Perkins will lead a retooled LSU defense, bolstered with highly touted transfers headed into year two under coordinator Blake Barker.
As a freshman, Perkins broke out as one of the SEC’s top pass rushers. So much so that he was considered a Heisman sleeper entering 2023. LSU moved Perkins to inside linebacker, where it took some time to settle in. The LSU staff plans to slot Perkins in DC Blake Baker’s STAR position in 2025.
