It has been an interesting offseason for USC football. After a somewhat disappointing 2025 recruiting class and winter transfer portal window, the Trojans significantly beefed up their recruiting operation, hiring general manager Chad Bowden away from archrival Notre Dame. The results thus far have ben highly encouraging, as USC currently holds the No. 1 ranked recruiting class in the country for the 2026 cycle.
The national media is starting to take notice of the Trojans’ turnaround. In a recent story, John Talty of CBS Sports listed his top ten college football “offseason winners”, and USC was included on his list.
Here is what Talty had to say about the Trojans:
“In the short term, USC suffered significant impact player departures in receivers Duce Robinson (Florida State) and Zachariah Branch (Georgia), and offensive lineman Emmanuel Pregnon (Oregon),” Talty wrote. “But big picture, I love that USC is building out an extensive personnel department of some of the nation’s most highly-regarded people. It started with hiring Chad Bowden away from Notre Dame after a national runner-up season for the Fighting Irish.
Bowden has since added a who’s who of personnel executives like Dre Brown (Illinois), Max Stienecker (Wisconsin) and Zaire Turner (Notre Dame). It’s a long way to early signing day but those moves already look to be paying off with the Trojans currently holding the nation’s No. 1 2026 recruiting class, according to 247Sports.”
