Denzel Washington speaks to Colorado football team, Deion Sanders

Denzel Washington, one of the greatest American actors of all time, shared some words of wisdom with the Colorado football team before the Buffs’ spring practice on Thursday.

While speaking with the Buffs via video call, Washington touched on handling the spotlight, maximizing each day and helping teammates who may be struggling. Here’s some of what Washington said (h/t CU Buffs football on X):

“When you pray for rain, you gotta deal with the mud too,” Washington told the Buffs. “But eventually, good things grow out of that mud. Fame ain’t all it’s made up to be. Power and privilege and fame and wealth, hopefully you’ll see, but it’s not all it’s made up to be. You can pray that it rains on you, but you got to deal with the mud.”

After Colorado head coach Deion Sanders shared his appreciation, Washington offered some additional advice and said he’d like a ticket to the national championship game.

“If y’all don’t send me a ticket to the national championship game when you get there, don’t ever go to none of my movies ever again,” Washington joked. “I know you’re going to be there. You remember that Denzel Washington said it. You are going to the national championship.”
