Colorado football spring game televised on ESPN

Colorado football head coach Deion Sanders spoke to the media for the second time this spring, announcing some pertinent information regarding Colorado’s annual Black & Gold Spring Game.

Coach Prime and the Buffaloes will play at Folsom Field again on Saturday, April 19, in front of a national audience. The game will be televised on ESPN2 and kickoff at 2:30 p.m. MT.

Sanders believes in spring games and even intimated that he is looking for an opponent for this year’s game. He hopes to set it up like the NFL, with joint practices leading into a pre-season game, which would be a first for college football spring games.

The Buffs join Virginia as the only two schools with nationally televised spring games. A few other programs will have their spring exhibition streamed, but the shift away from traditional spring games seems to have reached ESPN’s top brass. Nebraska is just one example of a program that is expected to cancel its spring showcase due to transfer portal concerns.

Last year, Colorado’s spring game seemed to turn into a showcase for players about to enter the transfer portal, with players like running back Dylan Edwards transferring soon after.

The spotlight will again be on the Buffaloes this spring, and who knows, it could be one of the last traditional spring games we see.

“We got to sell out this thing [spring game] and pack the stadium,” Sanders told the media. “The way this train is going, I don’t know if this will be the last one.”
