Finneytown names Koury Johnson as 2025 head football coach

Finneytown High School announced its newest football coach, Koury Johnson, on Monday.

Johnson started as an offensive assistant at Northwest High School and then spent time as the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Hughes High School under Chris Mobley, who is now the coach at Purcell Marian. Since, he’s been the offensive coordinator at Wilmington and Northwest.

Our motto is “dominate the day, dominate the play,” Johnson said. “We will establish daily habits that promote success on and off the football field.”

Johnson said his vision for Finneytown football is a program that introduces young men to real life through football. While not everyone is meant to be a professional athlete, Johnson hopes to teach his players to be professionals and better men in the future.

“We are thrilled to welcome Coach Johnson to the Wildcat family and look forward to the energy, leadership, and vision he will bring to our football program,” Finneytown’s athletic director Gerald Womack said.

Johnson replaces former Finneytown head coach Armand Tatum, who stepped down from the position earlier this year to take a job as an offensive assistant at Moeller. Tatum coached Finneytown, a Division V program in the Cincinnati Hills League, for the last three seasons, with a record of 5-25. Tatum led Finneytown to a 3-7 record in 2023, the only time the team has won more than two games since 2011.

“As a person of faith, I believe I’ve been placed in this spot not only to make an impact on the student-athletes and student body of Finneytown but to be impacted by some amazing people within that community,” Johnson said.
