Michigan State football: 2025 schedule and key games
Michigan State football’s schedule and key games for the 2025 season.
Michigan State football will not have a public spring viewing this year.
Coach Jonathan Smith on Tuesday – after the first practice of 15 allowed this spring by NCAA rules – said the Spartans will instead work out behind closed doors, including a few scrimmages. The program hasn’t had a spring game in Spartan Stadium since 2019 – sports were shut down in 2020 and MSU held open practices for the public the past four springs.
Smith said renovations inside the stadium are part of the reason, but he also pointed to programs around the country who have ended the public spring football games because of the transfer portal and potential poaching from other programs.
“I think it’s a consideration,” Smith said. “It was not the No. 1 reason why we decided not to do it, but it’s a consideration.
“Let’s face it, in this day and age where the opportunity for players across the country to make decisions come the back half of April, it’s a part of the conversation.”
An MSU spokesperson said the school and program are exploring different fan engagement activities in the summer or during August preseason camp.
