Why new DE Jack Pyburn wants to validate himself with LSU football

BATON ROUGE – When Jack Pyburn entered the transfer portal, believing in himself and trusting the process steered him,

There was a number schools and the calls came in droves over those few weeks. Coaches lining up to talk to him and recruiting him to finish out his career at their respective school was a byproduct of a mentality of trying to silence the doubters up to that point before and while at Florida.

But Pyburn’s mind shifted. What he was looking for was more about him. LSU football, defensive coordinator Blake Baker and his scheme and LSU edge rushers coach Kevin Peeples all fit the bill.

“At this point in my life, I’m done trying to prove people wrong,” Pyburn said following LSU’s seventh spring practice Tuesday morning. “A lot of my journey has been difficult and it’s always been about proving people wrong. I’m just at the point now where I’m just trying to prove myself right. It’s a big reason why I’m here.

“Believing in myself, knowing who I am, knowing what I can be and what my potential is.”

Pyburn experienced his best collegiate season last year with the Gators, totaling 60 tackles with four tackles-for-loss and a sack. The move to Louisiana, he hopes, brings out more in him.

He’s comfortable in Baton Rouge and he was already connected to south Louisiana as his stepmother is from Hammond, just a quick jaunt from LSU.
