The college football landscape continues to change as programs shift away from the traditional spring game. LSU football is one of the latest programs to make a change, with Tigers’ head coach Brian Kelly announcing LSU plans to host an open practice rather than an intra-squad spring game.
With the change, LSU will not have a televised broadcast this spring. In prior years, SEC Network broadcasted every SEC spring game.
LSU’s open practice will be April 12 and Tiger Stadium gates will open at 9:30 AM CT. The practice will be followed by an autograph session for the fans.
Kelly compared LSU’s choice to the structure of NFL OTA’s, saying the Tigers have to make the most of their limited time. Kelly said he wanted the entire roster to get the developmental reps needed, something that’s hard to accomplish with the structure of a traditional spring game.
Ole Miss and Alabama made similar decisions and won’t have a televised spring game, either. The April 12 practice will conclude spring practice for LSU.
