Two Georgia football players involved in driving-related incidents this week have been suspended from all team activities, the program announced Thursday.
Offensive lineman Marques Easley and wide receiver Nitro Tuggle are suspended indefinitely.
Easley was involved in a crash late Monday night at Athens Ridge Apartments in Oconee County, according to a source with direct knowledge of the incident.
Meanwhile, Tuggle was arrested early Thursday for reckless driving and speeding in Athens.
Both signed with Georgia in the 2024 recruiting class.
According to information provided to the Banner-Herald by the Georgia State Patrol, a Dodge Challenger Monday night was traveling west on Redwood Lane when it lost control, leaving the roadway and striking a power distribution box with its front.
The Dodge rotated clockwise and struck the passenger side of a Hyundai Elantra with its passenger’s side and a Mercedes Benz CLA with its driver’s side.
After striking the Hundai, it traveled in front of 1313 Redwood Lane.
The Georgia State Patrol did not identify Easley, but told Grady Newsource that the incident involved a Georgia football player. Easley is a redshirt freshman from Peoria, Ill., who saw action in two games last season.
Georgia football players’ high-speed driving incidents and arrests have been under scrutiny since the death of offensive lineman Devin Willock and recruiting staffer Chandler LeCroy on Jan. 15, 2023.
Police said LeCroy and defensive lineman Jalen Carter were racing at more than 100 miles per hour and LeCroy’s blood alcohol level was more than twice the legal limit.
Georgia football players and a member of the support staff have been charged in at least 31 speeding, reckless driving or racing incidents since that crash.
