Texas A&M’s spring football season has officially begun, as the year’s first practice will conclude this afternoon.
On Wednesday, head coach Mike Elko, along with starting quarterback Marcel Reed and cornerback Will Lee III, spoke to the media, providing plenty of intriguing quotes that likely reeled most of the Aggie fan base back into the fold after last season’s disappointing 1-4 finish after starting 7-1, and 5-0 in SEC play.
Still, this is just the start of what Texas A&M is building toward putting on the field in 2025, and after this offseason’s discussions regarding whether the annual Maroon & White spring game should be played, Elko provided one of the best answers you could ask for amid Texas and several other major program’s cancelling their spring game.

Credit to KBTX’s Travis Brown for asking the question; it’s unclear if Elko was directly referencing the Texas Longhorns, who lost to Ohio State in the College Football Playoff Semifinals earlier this year. Longhorns head coach Steve Sarkisian deserves deserved credit for building his program the right way, which has led to consecutive CFB appearances.
However, Sarkisian’s choice to cancel Texas’s Orange-White Spring Game was a personal choice to adopt an offseason program similar to the NFL OTAs doesn’t need to be replicated unless the fear of added injury or attrition becomes a constant issue.
