Why Texas football enters Arch Manning era with lofty expectations

Being invited to the Elite 11 camp as a high school football player is a mark of prestige. The final is a televised competition between the best quarterback prospects in the nation, with invitees bound for the Football Bowl Subdivision or even Power Four programs and the winner earning the title of best high school quarterback.
Eight regionals will be held before then, and the second is Saturday in Austin at Del Valle High School. The quarterbacks of the 2026 recruiting cycle are the focus, but there will be plenty of high-ranking prospects from other position groups in attendance.
Here are some Central Texas players to watch, along with a few Texas football targets:
Austin-area Elite 11 quarterbacks
The top local name to watch at the Elite 11 camp is Bastrop quarterback Weston Nielsen. The ninth-ranked prospect for the class of 2027 according to the 247Sports composite, Nielsen threw for 3,185 yards, 37 touchdowns and seven interceptions in his first full season as a starter. Scouts will study him closely as a potential Elite 11 finalist for next year.
Another rising junior attending is Regents’ Jack Devine, who holds offers from UTSA, Coastal Carolina, Sacramento State and Georgia State.
Rouse’s London Morgan, Hutto’s Kaden Stefek and Pflugerville’s Cole Taylor are the 2026 quarterbacks who could raise their stock. Taylor is the only one rated a three-star by 247Sports, but this is a prime opportunity for them to stand out in front of prominent scouts.
