Time/Network for Texas Longhorns vs. Ohio State Buckeyes likely set

The last time the Texas Longhorns visited the Horseshoe in Columbus, Ohio the game was a night game that famously had one of the most hostile environments UT has ever played in. That game set the stage for the 2005 Vince Young national title. But Arch Manning most probably won’t have to face a night crowd. The Horns opener against Ohio State will likely be a Big Noon Saturday game on Fox Sports.

Fox Sports gets to pick the weeks it gets first choice for their Big Noon Saturday window. Historically, Fox has picked the Rivalry Week matchup between Michigan and Ohio State first. Second, Fox tends to pick the best out-of-conference games available. Last year, Fox picked Texas at Michigan.

Week one is filled with great matchups, but none compare to Aug. 30 Texas-Ohio State matchup. The game could feature the No. 1 and No. 2 teams in the country. There are also numerous storylines to be played out, none bigger than Arch Manning’s first game as the permanent UT starting quarterback. Gus Johnson, Joel Klatt, Tom Rinaldi, and Jenny Taft will be on the call from Ohio Stadium.

Crowds are typically much more subdued for early kickoff games than they are for night games. Take Arkansas for example. In 2021, Texas played in Fayetteville in front of a raucous crowd that definitely impacted the Longhorns play. But in last year’s 11 a.m. CT start time, the Hogs faithful were much calmer. Fans were more likely to have a coffee in their hands than a beer.

Before VY and the Horns beat the Buckeyes in Ohio, OSU had never lost a night game at the Horseshoe. This time, the teams will play in bright sunshine.
