FSU football recruiting: legacy offensive lineman commits

On Saturday, 2026 IOL Michael Ionata from Clearwater, FL, committed to Florida State after FSU wrapped up their practice. Ionata had been to Tallahassee multiple times, creating a strong relationship with new offensive line coach Herb Hand. 247sports ranks the Clearwater native as a three-star and the 134th-ranked prospect in the state of Florida.

Ionata received interest from North Carolina, Kentucky, and USF. Ionata stands a legitimate 6’5.5’’ and weighs 300 pounds, fitting the profile of the players Florida State wants to recruit and the defined roles Hand wants at the OL position. Michael’s father, Joey, was a legacy here, playing in Tallahassee in the late 1980s and earning an All-American honorable mention in 1988.
