Clemson true freshman running back Gideon Davidson has quickly made an impression this spring, drawing strong praise from offensive coordinator Garrett Riley.
Riley spoke highly of Davidson’s instincts and versatility after Monday’s practice, emphasizing how smooth and natural he looks on the field.
“The guy’s just natural,” Riley said. “I mean, he’s a natural – natural balance, a cutter. He can be a violent runner. I think he’s got natural hands and can do things where you’re spreading him out or things in the passing game. I just think he’s a very natural kid.”
Davidson, a highly touted four-star prospect, signed with Clemson in December and enrolled early in January. He put up staggering numbers at Liberty Christian Academy in Virginia, helping lead his team to an undefeated season and back-to-back state championships. As a senior in 2024, he rushed for 2,054 yards on 223 carries (9.2-yard average) with 34 touchdowns. By the time he signed with Clemson, his career totals included 7,438 rushing yards, 118 rushing touchdowns, and over 8,000 yards from scrimmage. His dominance earned him recognition as both Gatorade Player of the Year and MaxPreps Virginia High School Football Player of the Year.
Beyond his on-field ability, Riley also praised Davidson’s confidence and composure.
“Just seeing him on the field, he just strikes me as a person that’s not really fazed by a whole lot,” Riley said. “I think he’s confident in himself, and just his demeanor is certainly a strength of his.”
Davidson’s early success in spring practice has positioned him as a player to watch heading into the 2025 season.
