College sports aren’t always fair, and in today’s landscape of the sport becoming more and more of a business, that unfairness is only going to continue to widen. How players handle that and work through it says a lot about their character and who they are.
One Iowa Hawkeyes football player who lived at the center of that and under a microscope is former quarterback Spencer Petras. An extremely underappreciated player for what he gave to this program and continues to give to this program, Petras loves Iowa football, and his actions make that very evident.
Despite not being given much of a chance due to the offensive coordinator saga swirling over his head, he was professional and always did the right thing. That has continued past his playing days at Iowa.
During his press conference, Iowa football head coach talked about what Spencer Petras has done for Iowa, his attitude, and an overall look at the type of person the quarterback is, giving his time to help coach despite being injured.
“He’s just a really exceptional guy. That was apparent when we met him. They flew through the night. Came here after playing in the playoffs that night.
First time you meet him, he’s just a little different of a guy. He was kind of an old soul back then,” Ferentz said when asked about the former quarterback.
“He’s a really smart, smart guy. I think he’s going to get into coaching at some point. He’s really sharp. He knows what’s going on and he understands the game pretty well. I think he’s going to give…
