WATCH: FAMU QB Tyler Jefferson recaps 1st scrimmage of 2025 spring camp

Florida A&M held its first spring scrimmage on Thursday, giving coaches a chance to evaluate the team’s progress.Head Coach James Colzie III stressed the importance of discipline and avoiding penalties after the scrimmage.The Rattlers will continue spring practice with another scrimmage scheduled for April 3rd and the Orange and Green Spring Game on April 12th.
Coach James Colzie III has gotten the first game-like assessment of his 2025 Florida A&M football team.
On Thursday, the Rattlers held their first scrimmage of the spring on Ken Riley Field at Bragg Memorial Stadium.
The session allows Colzie and his staff to know where the team can grow with nine spring practices remaining.
“This was our first scrimmage. Coaches will evaluate and make the appropriate changes,” Colzie told the Tallahassee Democrat. “There will be some depth chart movement because when you play well, you move up. When you don’t play as well, you move down.
“I’m proud of our guys. It’ll be a good chance for us as a staff to correct what we need to correct.”
FAMU’s offense moves downfield through running, opportunistic passing
The FAMU offense didn’t score any touchdown, but the unit showed that it could pick up chunks of yardage.
Rattlers quarterbacks Traven Green, Tyler Jefferson, Bryson Martin, Junior Muratovic, and Roman Purcell got reps under center.
“Offensively, we got to put the ball in the endzone. But being able to move it downfield as crisply as we did, I enjoyed that, and it’s something we’re looking to build on, speed it up, and incorporate more plays,” Jefferson explained.
