Browns’ Jimmy Haslam, Andrew Berry meet with Penn State’s Abdul Carter

The Browns continue to meet privately with potential options for the No. 2 overall pick.

A contingent led by owner Jimmy Haslam, general manager Andrew Berry and executive vice president J.W. Johnson met with Penn State defensive end Abdul Carter on Thursday night in State College, Pa., league sources confirmed for the Beacon Journal. ESPN’s Adam Schefter was the first to report the meeting.

Penn State’s pro day is Friday. Carter, while he will be measured, will not participate in any drills.

Carter left the NFL combine early in February when a stress reaction was discovered in his right foot. At the time, his agent, Drew Rosenhaus, said he expected Carter to participate at the pro day.

Rosenhaus told ESPN earlier this week that Carter wouldn’t be participating in the drills at pro day to continue his rehab on a shoulder injury he suffered in the Fiesta Bowl.

Carter was asked about the prospects of playing with Browns defensive end Myles Garrett during a combine media availability. The Penn State standout ranked Garrett as one of his top three edge rushers he watches.

“Yeah, that’d be dope,” Carter said last month. “Myles is one of the guys I study, one of the guys I watch. Just his game, the way he can impact the game as a pass rusher and as a defender overall, on special teams jumping over the pile, blocking the kick. He’s one of the guys I studied, try to emulate my game after.”

The meeting with Carter comes in the same week in which the Browns have also held their own private workouts with three of the top quarterbacks in this year’s class. A contingent that included Haslam, Berry and head coach Kevin Stefanski watched Miami’s Cam Ward, Alabama’s Jalen Milroe and Ole Miss’ Jaxson Dart all work out separate from their respective pro days.

A similiar private workout is expected with Colorado quarterback Shedeur…
