ANN ARBOR, Mich. — Until we get to see the Michigan football offense in person on April 19 in the spring game, it’s difficult to fully grasp what it might look like under new offensive coordinator Chip Lindsey. Lindsey has been around the block, as a coordinator and head coach in both college and high school, and he’s on the record for wanting to moreso adapt his system to the players he’s inheriting compared to implementing a unique vision.
On Friday, perhaps we got a little nugget as to what the offense may look like.
For the first time this spring, senior tight end Marlin Klein met with the media to discuss the offseason practices, and when WolverinesWire asked him about his own personal improvement over the course of the past few months, Klein mentioned Lindsey’s offense ‘spreading out a little bit.’ That said, it also doesn’t sound like a complete departure from what Wolverines fans are accustomed to, but it perhaps sounds a bit more modernized.
“With Coach Lindsey being here and the offense kind of spreading out a little bit and kind of really having the opportunity to be myself and what kind of what I came here to do,” Klein said. “But still getting better in the run game and being more consistent each and every single day. Yeah, I’m just excited.”
With that in mind, don’t expect to see a complete revamp, where the maize and blue have gone full air raid while abandoning the run. But Klein notes that Lindsey does take more advantage of the tight ends in the pass game and that there is a bit more innovation when it comes to the aerial attack in general.
However, it is still Michigan football, so you will still see Michigan football.
