Deion Sanders signs contract extension with Colorado football

Deion Sanders won’t be going anywhere anytime soon as the Colorado football head coach is signing a massive extension with the Buffaloes.

It was announced by the school Friday morning that Sanders signed a 5-year, $54 million contract extension with Colorado. The university’s board of regents approved the deal to make Sanders one of the highest-paid coaches in the country.

Coach Prime is entering his third season at the helm and after a 9-4 season, many expected contract talks to take place and for NFL teams to come calling. Colorado’s athletic director Rick George stepped up and put to bed any immediate NFL rumors by getting this deal done.

“Coach Prime has revolutionized college football and in doing so, has restored CU football to our rightful place as a national power,” George said. “This extension not only recognizes Coach’s incredible accomplishments transforming our program on and off the field, it keeps him in Boulder to compete for conference and national championships in the years to come.”

Sanders will make an average of $10.8 million per year making him the highest-paid football coach in the Big 12 and among the top 10 in the country. The contract kicks in before the start of the upcoming season. He will make $10 million in 2025, $10 million in 2026, $11 million in 2027, $11 million in 2928 and $12 million in 2029.

Sanders had $18.3 million left on his original five-year, $29.5 million contract. The buyout of the contract will begin at $12 million before December 31, 2025; $10 million before December 31, 2026, $6 million before December 31, 2027, $4 million before December 31, 2028, and $3 million before December 31, 2029.

Those numbers should keep NFL teams away for at least the time being.

“I’m excited for the opportunity to continue building something special here at Colorado,” Sanders said in the press…
