Kam Cody, Benedictine’s junior 4-star defensive lineman, commits to Clemson

Kameron Cody, the 4-star junior lineman from Benedictine, announced his commitment to play football at Clemson on Saturday night.

His decision was first reported by Hayes Fawcett of On3sports.com.

Cody, a 6-foot-2, 290-pound defensive tackle, was a 2024 All-Greater Savannah first-team selection after a stellar junior campaign. He had 75 tackles, with nine for losses, and 6.5 sacks with seven quarterback hurries and was an All-State Class 4A first-team selection by the Atlanta Journal Constitution

He had a plethora of big-time offers and said he chose Clemson over LSU, Tennessee, Georgia Tech, Arizona State, Indiana and UCLA.

“I visited Clemson for the first time when I was in seventh grade and then I went again for the Elite Retreat in March,” Cody said in a phone interview Saturday night. “I just like the family environment they have there, it feels like home. I like how everyone interacts with each other. They can give constructive criticism and there’s no fighting about it. It feels like a brotherhood, and definitely reminds me of Benedictine in that way.”

The commitment is the latest chapter in the remarkable story of Cody’s life. As a freshman, he had a cardiac incident at an October Benedictine practice and stopped breathing on the sideline. Benedictine trainers Brian Tuten and Ed Livingston performed CPR and shocked Cody’s chest three times with an automated external defibrillator to save his life after he stopped breathing. Cody was unable to breath on his own for nearly 40 minutes as he was whisked to the hospital in an ambulance with BC coach Danny Britt riding alongside his player. 

Cody, who received a scholarship offer from Arkansas as an eighth grader, never lost sight of his football goals during a lengthy recovery. He had an ICD (an Implantable cardioverter-defibrillator) installed in his heart, and was…
