5-star OT Immanuel Iheanacho snubs UGA from top schools group

The Georgia Bulldogs have missed five-star offensive tackle Immanuel Iheanacho’s top schools group. Iheanacho is ranked as the No. 3 recruit in the nation, the No. 2 offensive tackle and the top recruit in Maryland.

The 6-foot-7, 345-pound offensive tackle is a member of the 2026 recruiting cycle. He plays high school football for Georgetown Prep in Baltimore, Maryland.

Iheanacho’s top seven schools are Maryland, Oregon, Auburn, Texas A&M, Penn State, LSU and Alabama. The five-star removed Georgia, Tennessee, Miami and Florida from his top schools group. The massive offensive tackle is projected to commit to the Maryland Terrapins, per 247Sports.

Iheanacho’s decision to remove UGA from his top schools group comes as a bit of a surprise. Georgia was among the top contenders to land the elite recruit recently and had been drawing significant buzz.

Iheanacho staying in state would be a massive win for Maryland football. The Terrapins have only signed six commitments in schools history. However, Maryland does have a five-star commitment in the class of 2026 in five-star defensive end Zion Lee, who is another Baltimore product. Lee would be Maryland’s highest ranked signee in school history with Iheanacho not far behind.

Iheancho’s top schools announcement is a blow to Georgia football recruiting. Now, head coach Kirby Smart and Georgia will likely turn their focus to five-star offensive tackle Jackson Cantwell.
