In their first season as members of the Big Ten Conference, Dan Lanning and the Oregon Ducks did what few people expected, winning the conference championship with a victory over the Penn State Nittany Lions in Indianapolis. Now, they hope to follow that with another successful season in 2025.
According to projections ahead of spring football, there’s a good chance that Oregon finds similar success this year. CBS Sports’ Tom Fornelli picked a side on every Big Ten football 2025 season win total on Tuesday, and he put a high number on the Ducks’ win total.
Fornelli’s projection of 10.5 wins is in line with how BetMGM sees things in Eugene, with a relatively easy schedule lining up for the Ducks. The toughest games come on the road against Penn State and Washington, and at home against Indiana and USC. Outside of those four games, the Ducks face the likes of Montana State, Oklahoma State, Oregon State, Wisconsin, and Minnesota at home, while traveling to Northwestern and Rutgers as well.
Fornelli projects the Ducks will go 11-1 in the regular season, surpassing their projected win total. The only loss that he predicts comes on the road against the Nittany Lions in Week 5.
“I don’t know for sure who will start at quarterback for Oregon, but I’m confident the Ducks will be one of the more talented teams in the league,” Fornelli writes. “It also helps to avoid Michigan and Ohio State while getting USC at home. Road games against Penn State and Washington will be the big tests.”
At this point, the quarterback competition is open between Dante Moore and Austin Novosad, but Oregon’s roster is incredibly stacked with talent, and many expect them to contend for another conference championship in 2025.
