Another Georgia Bulldogs offensive lineman is battling through an injury. Projected starting right tackle Earnest Green suffered a dislocated finger recently during spring practice, according to head Kirby Smart.
“Earnest (Greene), he’s had a few bumps and bruises. He’s dealing with a – I don’t know which finger it is,” Smart said. “He’s got a dislocated finger that he’s having to wear a club. So, it’s frustrating for him because he can’t use his hand. I told him it’s going to be a chance to get a lot better because when he comes back with his use of his hand, he’s going to be a lot better. He’s practicing hard. I feel like he really tried to play hard Saturday in the scrimmage.”
Greene played the most snaps of any returning Georgia offensive lineman, so as a rising redshirt junior, Greene is expected to be the anchor of the UGA offensive line. Through 565 snaps last year, he earned just a 59.5 PFF grade, with a 65.7 pass-blocking grade. Greene battled injuries in 2024 before he was eventually usurped by Monroe Freeling for the starting blindside spot, but Greene has a lot of potential as he showcased in 2023.
Georgia is adjusting after having a lot of turnover on their offensive line. Four of last season’s starters, Tate Ratledge, Jared Wilson, Xavier Truss, and Dylan Fairchild, are all preparing for the 2025 NFL draft.
Not to mention, Monroe Freeling and Daniel Calhoun are both out for the spring due to injury. Another projected key offensive lineman, Marques Easley, is suspended indefinitely from the team.
Injuries in the trenches were one of the pitfalls for Georgia football last year. Constant shuffling on the offensive line (like Greene to Freeling) and injuries to running backs gave Georgia the second-worst rushing offense in the SEC.
