LSU football adds former linebacker to coaching staff

LSU football made an addition to its staff in the form of a past player. According to a report from CBS Sports and 247Sports, former linebacker Mike Jones Jr. will join the team as an analyst.

Jones played his final two collegiate seasons at LSU after spending 2018-20 at Clemson. He entered the program under former head coach Ed Orgeron and played for Brian Kelly in his first season at the helm.

In 2021, Jones was coached by current LSU defensive coordinator Blake Baker.

As a fifth-year player and team captain, Jones played in all 14 games and tallied 21 tackles. He came up big at Alabama in November, making four solo tackles, including one sack, and made a tackle in the Citrus Bowl blowout win against Purdue.

Following his time donning the Purple and Gold, Jones signed with the Atlanta Falcons as an undrafted free agent but was later cut from the team. Now a member of LSU’s staff, Jones will work with an LSU linebacker unit that projects to be one of the best in the SEC with the return of Whit Weeks.
