2026 linebacker Barry Fries commits to Cyclones

Iowa State football: Matt Campbell on moving on after historic season

Iowa State football achieved its first 11-win season last year, but the Cyclones are hungry for more.

Iowa State football has secured another commitment from the class of 2026.

Barry Fries, a 6-foot-3 linebacker from Elkhorn, Nebraska, announced his commitment to the Cyclones on Saturday night via social media.

Fries chose Iowa State over reported offers from Lindenwood, Sacramento State, South Dakota State and Air Force.

He is the second linebacker commit from the 2026 class, joining fellow Nebraskan Keian Kaiser, who gave his verbal on March 26.

Fries is a three-star prospect and the No. 6-rated recruit overall from the class of 2026 in the state of Nebraska, according to Rivals.com. He is not rated in ESPN or 247 Sports’ rankings.

Fries is the 10th overall commit for the Cyclones from the class of 2026. He is coming off of a standout junior season for Elkhorn North High School, where he racked up 122 total tackles, one sack and a fumble recovery during the Wolves’ 9-3 season.
