Texas A&M’s vast history of recruiting elite quarterback prospects has flown under the radar as the program’s second Heisman winner, Johnny Manziel, was considered a three or four-star prospect who initially intended to commit to Oregon before ultimately choosing the Aggies.
Under former head coach Kevin Sumlin, Manziel’s two-year journey led to landing five-star signal callers Kyler Murray and Kyle Allen, who, despite their short careers in College Station, saw Texas A&M as a premier destination. Even under Jimbo Fisher, long-time starter Kellen Mond was a five-star prospect who still holds several A&M records.
However, after Mond’s departure, it’s been a rough go from a health perspective, as quarterback Conner Weigman, now with Houston, could not stay healthy. Current starter Marcel Reed is the next Aggie quarterback looking to become a consistent force ahead of his first full starting season.
In the 2026 class, Texas A&M OC Collin Klein deserves credit for landing four-star quarterback Helaman Casuga, while in the 2027 cycle, four-star Trae Taylor, one of the ascending prospects in the class, has moved his commitment date up, now just weeks away.
After visiting College Station late last month, head coach Mike Elko and Collin Klein reportedly made a significant impact during Taylor’s interview with GigEm247’s Andrew Hattersley, which could end up in the Aggies’ favor.
“This trip left a great impression on me,” Taylor stated. “I think coach and I finally connected more than just coach and player this weekend.”
Taylor will now announce…
