Wisconsin football landed a commitment from class of 2026 defensive lineman Carmelow Reed on Monday.
Reed chose the Badgers over other notable offers from LSU, Michigan State, Minnesota, Missouri and Ole Miss. He is the program’s third commitment in the class, joining wide receiver Tayshon Bardo and offensive lineman Benjamin Novak.
247Sports lists Reed as a three-star recruit, plus ranks him as the No. 532 player in the class, No. 57 defensive lineman and No. 13 recruit from Illinois. The 6-foot-7, 250-pound prospect projects as an edge rusher at the college level. It wouldn’t be a surprise if his profile at the position continues to grow as his senior season nears.
Reed is one of several players scheduled to visit the Badgers the weekend of June 8. Fellow commits Bardo and Novak are also among that group.
Wisconsin’s class of 2026 ranks No. 54 nationally after Reed’s commitment. With an ’88’ rating, he’s currently the class’ top-ranked recruit.
Wisconsin is looking to replicate its consecutive top-25 finishes in the 2024 and 2025 recruiting cycles. That may be a tall task, with ace recruiter and former Badgers general manager Max Stienecker gone to USC.
Recruiting was one of Luke Fickell’s major selling points when he took the Wisconsin job in November of 2022. The 2026 cycle will be an interesting test for that point, as he’s forced to sell improvement to high school prospects after the team’s 5-7 2024 season and overall 12-13 record with him at the helm.
