Benedictine’s Stephen Cannon, the athletic junior quarterback who is drawing recruiting interest from a host big-time football programs, announced his commitment to play at Texas Tech on Tuesday night.

Cannon is the third Cadet quarterback in a row who will play for a Power 4 program.
Holden Geriner from the BC Class of 2022, signed with Auburn, where he earned his degree, before recently entering the transfer portal and signing with Texas State. Luke Kromenhoek, from the Cadet Class of 2024, was next in line as he signed to play at Florida State. He transferred to Mississippi State after his freshman season last fall.
In his first year as a starter last fall, Cannon showed off a special blend of athleticism with his arm strength, speed and football IQ that made him one of the most sought after signal callers in the South. He completed 58% of his passes for 1,352 yards with 11 touchdowns and five interceptions and rushed for 147 yards and three scores in seven games, as his season was interrupted by a shoulder injury. He came back to play in the Cadets final game of the season, a state quarterfinal loss to Blessed Trinity.
Cannon said he currently has 26 offers, and chose Texas Tech of the Big 12 Conference over a list of his top schools which included Georgia Tech, App State, UCF and Wake Forest.
“I went to Texas A&M on a recruiting visit on Saturday and Sunday and I had a lot of fun,” said Cannon, who is also a star sprinter on the BC track and field team and a standout basketball player for the Cadets. “I was able to meet the whole coaching staff and I was really impressed. They treated me with so much respect and talked about how I will fit in with their offense and what their vision is for me in the future of the program.
