Missouri football defensive end Jahkai Lang to enter transfer portal

Missouri football defensive end Jahkai Lang will enter the transfer portal, he announced via his Instagram account Wednesday. The news was first reported by Hayes Fawcett of On3.

Lang follows backup quarterback Drew Pyne as Mizzou players to signal their intention to transfer in this window. The portal is officially open nationwide April 15-22. Pyne, who is a graduate transfer and eligible to enter at any time, already has committed to Bowling Green.

Both moves are likely to allow the transfer to see more playing time at their next stop.

Lang is part of a position room that, on Tuesday, Mizzou head coach Eli Drinkwitz called “some of the best defensive ends in the country.”

The Tigers signed Georgia’s Damon Wilson II, Appalachian State’s Nate Johnson and Northwest Missouri State’s Langden Kitchen during the winter transfer portal and added top-50 high school recruit Javion Hilson in the early signing period. The Tigers can return 2024 starter Zion Young, oft-used backup Eddie Kelly Jr. and Darris Smith, who spent last season sidelined with a knee injury after drawing some offseason hype.

Lang earned some playing time in 2024, but his path to reps next season were limited in perhaps the Tigers’ deepest room.

“That is a group that has an incredible amount of depth, talent,” Drinkwitz said. “Got the ability to stop the run, rush the passer, really effect and influence the game at a really, really (high) level.”

Lang is a 6-foot-3, 250-pound edge rusher out of Troy, Missouri, where he played for Troy-Buchanan High and was a three-star prospect in the Class of 2023.

He played in 12 games for the Tigers last season, recording three sacks as part of 13 total tackles. He has three remaining years of eligibility.

Drinkwitz said Tuesday that he anticipates Missouri to have “a few more” transfer portal…
