Someday in the not-too-distant future, the Texas Tech football team could have a Cannon for an arm at quarterback.

On Tuesday, the Red Raiders picked up a commitment from Stephen Cannon, a 6-foot-2, 195-pound quarterback from Benedictine Military School in Savannah, Georgia. He’s the first QB and the ninth pledge for the Red Raiders’ 2026 recruiting class.

In seven games last season for Benedictine, Cannon completed 87 of 149 passes for 1,352 yards and 11 touchdowns, according to MaxPreps. He also rushed for 147 yards and three touchdowns. Cannon missed five games with a shoulder injury, returning to play in a state-quarterfinal loss as his team finished 7-5.

According to recruiting services, Cannon’s been offered scholarships by at least 26 schools. Most are group-of-five programs, but the list also includes offers from Central Florida, Georgia Tech, Virginia and Wake Forest. He has a couple of offers apiece from military academies and Ivy League schools.

Cannon has been on unofficial visits to Florida State, South Florida and Georgia Tech and took an unofficial visit to Texas Tech this past weekend. He has official visits scheduled in June to App State and Texas Tech.

Benedictine Military has produced two power-four conference quarterbacks recently. Luke Kromenhoek spent last season at Florida State before transferring this offseason to Mississippi State. Holden Geriner spent three seasons at Auburn before transferring this…
