Iowa State football: Matt Campbell on moving on after historic season

Iowa State football achieved its first 11-win season last year, but the Cyclones are hungry for more.

Iowa State football is getting some added depth in the trenches. The Cyclones got their first commit along the defensive line in the 2026 recruiting class.

Daniel Howard, a 6-foot-3, 280-pound defensive lineman, announced his commitment on Tuesday night. The Chicago native is Iowa State’s 12th overall commit in the class of 2026.

A three-star prospect, according to 247 Sports, Howard chose the Cyclones over other offers from Kansas, Cincinnati, Kansas State, Texas Tech, Illinois State, Northern Illinois and Toledo.

The Cyclones were the first power-conference team to show interest and offer Howard, but competition started to heat up in recent months as more schools started to get involved in his recruitment.

A two-way lineman at Lane Tech, Howard mostly lined up at defensive end. Through nine games, he recorded 47 tackles and 4.5 sacks. He is Iowa State’s third commit over the last week.
