Christ School hires Clint Alexander as head football coach

Another piece in the Western North Carolina football coaching carousel is set, with Christ School announcing the hiring of Clint Alexander as head football coach and program director on Wednesday.

Alexander replaces Chad Walker, who accepted the coaching job at Pace University in Pleasantville, New York, this offseason.

Alexander spent the past three seasons as the coach at Blue Ridge School in Saint George, Virginia, according to a release from Christ School. The Barons went 11-0 in 2024 and won the Virginia Division II state championship. They were 9-2 and state runners-up in 2023 following a 5-4 record in Alexander’s first season.

He previously coached at Woodberry Forest in Virginia from 2005 to 2016, where he went 83-32-1.

In his career, 100 of his players have reached the FBS level in college, and five former players have played in the NFL, according to Christ School’s news release.

Walker was 18-23 in four seasons at the helm of the Greenies, who won their NCISAA Division II state semifinal last season. They were 4-5 in a year impacted heavily by Tropical Storm Helene and finished their season with a win over rival Asheville School, extending their winning streak in The Game to 13, a series record.

Christ School also will be searching for a new starting quarterback after Mason Holtzclaw, a Power Four prospect with offers from schools like North Carolina and Florida State, transferred to Carrollton High School in Georgia

Running back Jackson Cancel, offensive lineman Cash Freeman and defensive back Zion Ikeme are all set to return.

Cherokee is the last school in WNC still searching for a head coach for the 2024-25 season.
