Kalen DeBoer talks Alabama football final spring scrimmage

In an appearance on “The Game with Ryan Fowler” on Tide 100.9 FM, Alabama football coach Kalen DeBoer talked about the Crimson Tide’s final scrimmage of spring Thursday before A-Day Saturday.

For DeBoer, it was “very similar” to the scrimmage Alabama had the week before, especially with the continued management of the roster with injuries. But overall, DeBoer said he left satisfied.

“Back and forth, like you want,” DeBoer said. “Defense continues to do a great job just being both good against the run and the pass. Offense did a better job holding onto the football. We had a couple of fumbles in the scrimmage last week. I thought they did a better job there. Taking care of the football is a priority. But both sides making plays. Some ball that were thrown down the field that we made catches on that were impressive. Also a couple of guys high-pointing the ball and getting a pick here and there as well.

“From the head coach’s perspective, you want the give and take. You want that back and forth.”

DeBoer mentioned the lack of bodies available in the Alabama tight end room with injuries to Marshall Pritchett, Josh Cuevas and Danny Lewis, and the imminent arrival of Kaleb Edwards.

DeBoer said offensive lineman William Sanders continued to help out in the tight end room during the scrimmage.

In the long run, DeBoer said he hopes the amount of spring injuries to upperclassmen are “a blessing in disguise” as the Crimson Tide tries to create depth with young members of the roster.

Alabama will end its spring practice slate at noon Saturday with its annual A-Day spring game at Bryant-Denny Stadium.
