Texas A&M HC Bucky McMillan hires TJ Cleveland to his 2025 staff

New Texas A&M head coach Bucky McMillan has nearly filled out his 2025 coaching staff after taking over the program last weekend. Mitch Cole, Kyle Keller, and now TJ Cleveland have made their way to College Station. All bring impressive recruiting backgrounds, while Keller is one of the more respected defensive coaches in the country.

McMillan is just 41 years old and has spent his entire life in Alabama. He knows that to recruit in Texas, he’ll need a coaching staff with experience in the Lone Star State. While Cole and Keller coached at Texas A&M under former head coach Billy Kennedy, Cleveland has yet to coach in Texas. However, he is one of the top recruiters in the country and is a proven asset on each coaching staff he’s been a part of.

After holding positions with UAB (2002-06), Missouri (2006-11), Arkansas (2011-19), and St. John’s (2019-23), Cleveland spent the 2024 season with Witchita State. He coached recent transfer portal addition Corey Washington, who included the Aggies in his final list of transfer destinations last weekend.

Cleveland is an all-around good coach, aiding in recruiting and developing several players who have led their teams in scoring. Adding Cleveland at this stage of Bucky McMillan’s inaugural season is highly significant, as his influence in the transfer portal should be seen sooner rather than later.
