Colorado assistant coach and Pro Football Hall of Famer Warren Sapp is known for his bold personality and intense passion. At Thursday’s practice, the Colorado assistant coach gave one of his patented motivational talks to Colorado quarterback Kaidon Salter.
While Salter and the rest of the Buffs were stretching, Sapp greeted Salter and gave him quite the 15-second speech. Darius Sanders of Reach the People Media caught the moment on camera.
“When you got that ball in your hands, you’ve got the hopes and dreams of this whole university all the way back to 1885,” Sapp exclaimed. “Make a good decision with that rock. We’ll play defense and get it [the ball] back to you.”
That’s a strong message Sapp is sending to Salter, but it shows the Colorado coaching staff’s confidence in the Liberty transfer. Salter is still competing for the starting quarterback role against true freshman Julian Lewis, but all indications are that Deion Sanders will go with the more experienced signal caller.
Salter threw for 1,886 yards and 15 touchdowns last season at Liberty but only completed 55.3% of his passes. Colorado will hope Salter can return to his 2023 form when he racked up 2,876 yards and 32 touchdowns while averaging 9.9 yards per attempt. He also accumulated 2,063 rushing yards and 21 rushing touchdowns, showcasing his dual-threat ability.
Salter was the No. 87 overall player in the transfer portal and the No. 11 quarterback and joined the Buffs for his final year of eligibility after playing four seasons at Liberty.
