The leading returning rusher for the University of Cincinnati Bearcats ran for 447 yards and nine touchdowns last season.

That was quarterback Brendan Sorsby as back-to-back 1,000-yard rusher Corey Kiner is now pursuing a professional career. Sorsby was a reliable scrambler and was sometimes willing to throw his 6-foot-3, 235-pound frame at tacklers as opposed to the safety of the quarterback slide.

In a Scott Satterfield offense, you will always see the quarterback carry the ball, but some second-year UC players surrounding the quarterback could ease the amount of pain inflicted on the 21-year-old Texan Sorsby.

“Hopefully we can be a pretty explosive offense this year,” Sorsby said. “Time will tell. We’ll find out in the season how much I’m running. As of right now, we’ve got a bunch of guys who can go make plays. I don’t need to take any unneeded hits.”

UC Bearcats have ‘Pryor’ knowledge

Evan Pryor came to UC from Ohio State last year and developed into a major offensive weapon. Though he’s never heard the baseball phrase “Chicks dig the long ball,” he established himself as a home run hitter.

Pryor had six rushing touchdowns, two more than Kiner, and they were often highlight-reel runs. He had a 65-yard score in Oxford against the Miami RedHawks and a 55-yard Homecoming run in the win over Big 12 champion Arizona State.

Through the air, he snared an 80-yard scoring pass from Sorsby against West Virginia as one of his 15 receptions. The redshirt senior returns ready to run inside or outside.

“I’ve been picking things up in the weight room, trying to perfect my game all-around, not having any reasons to take me off the field,” Pryor said.
