QB Miller Moss in Jeff Brohm offense

While Tyler Shough is preparing for the NFL Draft, another era of a Louisville quarterback has begun. Miller Moss made his debut with the Cardinals, helping the offense to a 32-24 win over the defense during Friday’s spring football game.

He had 208 passing yards during five series in the first half and was surrounded by talent. After opting to redshirt midway through the 2024 season, Caullin Lacy emerged during the game as a deep ball threat. He caught Moss’s 18-yard touchdown pass and averaged 16.5 yards per catch during the first two quarters of the game.

Here are five observations from Louisville’s spring football game:

Quarterbacks behind Moss

While Moss has locked in the starter position, Brady Allen emerged as the Cardinals’ backup quarterback. Allen has the most familiarity with Brohm’s offense after coming with him from Purdue and has taken positive strides during the spring practices. The redshirt junior played three series in the first half and went 3-for-5 passing for 39 yards. During the first series of the second half, he engineered a touchdown drive that included a long pass to Antonio Meeks and ended with a 4-yard touchdown throw to Jaleel Skinner for the 29-17 offensive lead.

Deuce Adams took third-team reps and had 55 yards in the first half on 8-for-15 passing.

Louisville’s secondary takes shape

After losing all four starting defensive backs, Louisville had to find replacements. Rae’Mon Mosby’s Sun Bowl performance in December set the tone for a new year. He and Southern transfer Rodney Johnson started at cornerback while D’Angelo Hutchinson, who played behind MJ Griffin and Tamarion McDonald last season, and Florida International transfer Jojo Evans were the starting safeties.

Johnson accented his performance by picking off Moss.
