UGA football spring game updates, analysis

The Georgia Bulldogs’ Red Team (No. 1 offense) and Black Team (No. 1 defense) are battling it out in UGA’s annual spring game. Georgia’s spring game is not televised.

The Red Team leads the Black Team 27-17 entering the fourth quarter.

Things are opening up for the offense in the second half. Gunner Stockton connected with wide receivers Dillon Bell (49 yards) and Jeremy Bell (31 yard touchdown) on a pair of explosive plays for the Red Team. Quarterback Ryan Puglisi threw a touchdown pass to Colbie Young on the Red Team after Puglisi spent the first half with Black Team. Wide receiver London Humphreys has a pair of touchdowns including one from redshirt freshman walk-on Colter Ginn.

The Red Team had a strong first half to build a 13-3 lead. Red Team running back Nate Frazier scored the lone touchdown in the first half.

The Georgia defense appears to be a bit ahead of the Georgia offense at the moment. “There’s a running clock,” said Kirby Smart at halftime. “Less snaps” creates an advantage for the defense, which does not have to defend as many plays.

Georgia quarterback Gunner Stockton had a solid first half, but committed a key turnover. Georgia running back Chauncey Bowens had a strong first half for Georgia. Redshirt freshman defensive lineman Joseph Jonah-Ajonye keeps making plays for the Black Team.
