Colorado lands transfer portal commitment from OL Xavier Hill

Colorado football and Deion Sanders have prioritized bolstering the offensive line the last two offseasons after the Buffaloes’ 2023 line was one of the worst in college football.

On Saturday morning, Colorado received a massive commitment from Memphis transfer Xavier Hill. The 6-foot-4, 318-pound lineman commented to the Buffs after his official visit just a few days ago. Hill announced his decision on social media.

The versatile offensive lineman played a team-high 916 offensive snaps last season for the Tigers and was Memphis’ highest-rated player with a grade of 84, according to Pro Football Focus. In 2024, Hill played left guard and right tackle for the Tigers and seemed capable of playing every position along the line except maybe center. He had an 86.4 pass blocking grade and an 81.6 run blocking grade, making him a solid all-around lineman.

ESPN ranked Hill as the No. 4 overall player in the spring transfer portal, and he becomes Colorado’s first commitment this spring.

Hill would appear to slot in as the left guard next to Jordan Seaton along the current Colorado offensive line, making the Buffs’ left side of the offensive line a dominant force.

Hill, a Mississippi native, was a two-time first-team all-conference tackle at Memphis. He originally signed with LSU in 2020 and played six games throughout three seasons with only two starts. Hill has played parts of five collegiate seasons and will have one year of eligibility with the Buffaloes.

Colorado has now signed six offensive linemen from the portal since the end of the season, with Hill joining Mana Taimani, Zy Crisler, Zarian McGill and Aki Ogunbiyi.

As a sixth-year senior, Hill was allowed to commit before the portal opened. The spring portal officially opens to underclassmen this Wednesday.
