The rise of Desmond Malpress is all but here.
The class of 2027 EDGE prospect out of Jacksonville (Fla.) Atlantic Coast has built up considerable buzz since his sophomore tape has combined with head-turning offseason performances, including at RCS Miami on March 30.

The 6-foot-3, 212-pound pass rusher is now armed with double-digit scholarship offers, and the latest breached a new threshold in the process as his first recruiting trip to Florida resulted in SEC tender No. 1.
“This one was big for me,” Maplress told Rivals. “Especially since this is my first SEC offer and it’s in my home state. I feel like this will open the gates for other offers from SEC.
“I got the opportunity to meet with several coaches including my position coach and Coach (Billy) Napier. We had some great conversations. They made the experience fun and talking with them helped me learn more about the school. They love my athleticism and they also love the bend I show in my film.”

The initial impression of Gainesville was strong for the rising-junior talent, but it may have been more impactful for a key member of his camp.

“My mom is a big Florida fan,” he said. “When it comes to college ball Florida is her team so needless to say my mom is over the moon (laughing).”
Malpress and his family met with coaches and toured campus in addition to catching UF’s spring game event while in town.
“The stadium atmosphere was crazy,” he said. “The culture is unmatched so far.”
