SCHSL football highlights: Mountain View Prep beats Woodruff, 40-38

Mountain View Prep and Woodruff both came in undefeated in the 2024 high school football season.

Mountain View Prep junior running back Jaylen McGill committed to North Carolina after previously de-committing from Rutgers.McGill chose North Carolina over offers from several other ACC and SEC schools, including Clemson and South Carolina.

Mountain View Prep junior running back Jaylen McGill announced Saturday on social media he has committed to North Carolina football.

McGill was previously committed to Rutgers but decommitted just three weeks later in mid-February. According to his posts, he visited UNC on April 2, four days after a trip to Tennessee, and had another scheduled for April 27 at Georgia.

The 5-foot-10, 200 pound McGill is ranked by 247Sports Composite as the No. 6 overall player in South Carolina for the Class of 2026 and the No. 18 running back in the country.

He rushed for 1,658 yards (10.2 per carry) and 24 touchdowns last season, adding another 379 yards and seven TDs on 22 catches. 

McGill has 14 offers from ACC and SEC, schools, including Clemson and South Carolina. The others are Alabama, Auburn, Duke, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Georgia Tech, NC State, Tennessee, Texas and Virginia Tech. He has 30 offers in all.

Mountain View went 12-1 overall, 4-0 in Region 3-AAA as a first-year program. The Stars made it to the Class AAA Upper State championship game, where they lost to Belton-Honea Path and running back Marquise Henderson, a Clemson commit.

McGill transferred within the region to MVP from Broome, where he rushed 2,638 yards and 47 touchdowns in two seasons.
